Morning Musings - All or Nothing from a Recliner Gratitude vs Appreciation

I was just reflecting this morning on the events of the last few days and a question arose in my mind, “What is the difference between  gratitude and appreciation ?”
Because we can be grateful for something in our lives without really appreciating it. The subtle shift from gratitude to appreciation involves being  more thoughtfully aware and active in reflecting on the reasons we feel grateful about something or someone. Through present moment awareness, we begin to generate feelings of appreciation. For example, we can be grateful for having food on our table.  However, we can go further and appreciate its beauty, fragrance, taste, nutrition, and preparation. We move beyond thankfulness as we consciously recognize the value that food adds to our lives. In fact, one definition of the word “appreciation” is “recognition of the quality, value, significance, or magnitude of people and things.”

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and
more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

The conclusion arrived at was, “Gratitude is the base from where Appreciation grows and flourishes”.

How did you feel after granting someone a favour and the person did not show any appreciation? Did you just ignore it as one of those things people usually do or you felt disappointed and decided not to help that person the next time he or she is in need? The act of showing gratitude is something most of us fail to show when a good deed is done to us. We sometimes think we deserve every good thing that comes our way, so why thank someone? Our parents feed us, clothe us, provide shelter and do everything in order to make our life on this earth comfortable. How often do we say these words “Thank you Daddy/Mummy for……….”. If we really want to be appreciated the essence of saying 'Thank you' should never be overlooked.

As Leonado Davinci said “Knowing alone is not enough, we must apply. Willing alone is not enough, we must do.”

By now…..I’m sure you all have got a drift of where I’m headed !!!

So guys, I wish to place my sincere 'Gratitude and Appreciation' on record for ‘Some of our 3 Stars’….without naming them. I say 'some' because we all know which ones have stepped forward over the years when the need arose, or even untold when they felt the situation demanded. The Omnipresent CoC(k) Mickey Chhibber – the force-multiplying  galvaniser and the ‘glue’ that binds us together, the ‘Adjutant’ KB Menon for ensuring some decorum and discipline is maintained by ‘ us overgrown kids’ and for heralding our special days with his unique collages, Sanjay Thatte – the Bard par excellence for unfailingly  making us feel good again & again about ourselves, deservedly or undeservedly, and last but not at all the least ‘ GUYS TO ALL OF YOU FOR JUST BEING THERE’. Thank you, Thank You, Thank You. 🙏👊🤗⚔
