Perils of Social Media on National Security
The country is witnessing a very dangerous phenomenon for the last four days with some disgruntled lumpens in uniform taking to social media to air their grievances. Adding salt to the injury are some of these news channels, scrambling for TRP’s, airing these on their channels. What these news anchors/channels don’t realise is that these are serious matters of National Security which cannot be discussed in television studios, that also by these immature irresponsible news anchors who do not understand the 'ABC' of Military ethos. The Newshour on Times Now last night invited a Retd Chief of Army Staff as a guest only to be insulted by a disgruntled scumbag who claimed to have served in the Armed Forces, while these two ‘wet behind the ears’ news anchors sat as mute spectators. Absolutely shameful.
I also do not agree with COAS Gen Rawat saying he would place a box where any jawan can write a grievance directly to him. Stop playing to the gallery General.
There are time tested systems in place to air grievances of all ranks. Please follow them. Please do not let Social Media and these handful of errant, disloyal, disgruntled men corrode the foundation built on discipline and unquestioning loyalty. Nip it in the bud please.
I only speak for the Indian Army as a proud Veteran.
